What is JOAD?
JOAD or Junior Olympic Archery Development is a National Archery Association (NAA) program intended to provide archery instruction and competition for young archers across the country. The JOAD program allows young archers the opportunity to get out and shoot with fellow archers of all different abilities as well as participate in local and national tournaments. Through the JOAD Olympian Awards program, these archers can earn incentives as they develop and improve their scores up thru the ranks of Yeoman, Jr. Bowman, Bowman, Junior Archer, Archer, Master Archer, Expert Archer, Olympian, Silver Olympian and Gold Olympian. Each archer can advance at his or her own pace. Success at each level is dependent on the individual's skill and willingness to apply themselves.
Who can participate?
Any youth may participate in the JOAD program from the calendar year of their 7th birthday through the calendar year of their 18th birthday.
They must have attended our Intro to Archery Classes or can join at the discretion of one of the JOAD coaches.
They must have their own equipment.
What kind of bows can be used?
What if I'm not sure I want to compete?
Though all members of Rapids Archery JOAD Club will have the opportunity to compete, none are required to. For those looking for purely recreational archery, JOAD is a chance to hang out with friends and pursue the sport for fun.
Who are the Coaches?
When are practices?
Practices will be held on Saturday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 A.M. Practices will go year round in six week increments - six weeks of practice, two weeks off. At times practices will have to be rescheduled to prevent conflict with other Rapids Archery Club events.
Do I have to join the Rapids Archery Club?
While membership in the Rapids Archery Club is not required, it is strongly encouraged. Non Club members are required to pay a $3.00 shooting fee for range use outside of JOAD practices. You can join either as a Family membership or the youth can join as an Intermediate membership. See the Join Us page for full membership details.
